Beaches

MUNDESLEY – long, sandy beach that stretches out as far as the eye can see with all the amenities and charm of a classic seaside resort. The beach is backed by a promenade with colourful beach huts. A lifeguard service makes it ideal for families. It is one of Norfolk’s four Blue Flag beaches. (10 miles)

CLEY-NEXT-THE-SEA – quiet pebbly beach sloping down to the sea with stunning views, good swimming at high tide. Combine with a visit to the nature reserve and new environmental centre with its stunning views over the marshes. (11 miles)

WEST RUNTON –Classic bucket and spade beach just 5 miles away. One of the best rock pooling and fossil hunting beaches in the county. Pebbles at high tide, flat and sandy at low tide. Seaview café does tea and sandwiches. (5 miles)

HOLKHAM – dramatic sandy beach with lovely undulating dunes set against a backdrop of pine trees. Regularly voted one of the UK’s top beaches. Favourite location for film makers – featured in the closing scene of Shakespeare in Love and Sliding Doors. (23 miles)

WEYBOURNE – quiet shingle beach, cliff top walks. Dogs are allowed here all year round. (8 miles)

CROMER – wide sandy beach overlooked by the pier. One of 4 Norfolk beaches to be awarded the Blue Flag in 2014, has its own life guards, surf school (waves permitting – this is not California!). (6 miles)

STIFFKEY FRESHES – take a picnic and walk to the marshes with its winding creeks from the car park. Children (and a few adults) enjoy taking mud baths in the pools and building mud slides. This is one of the wildest and most spectacular places in Norfolk. Fabulous bird watching. (17 miles)

We had a lovely time in this beautiful house set in such lovely countryside. West Runton beach was so good for both children and dogs that we went twice. We loved our week here.

The barn was brilliant for three generations of our family. We loved the tranquillity of the location and the barn is well equipped for a family that loves to cook and be together.
